“You Really Got Me”

December 7, 2009

A new film about the vital 60′s rock band The Kinks is coming out. While no details regarding the actors or release date have been released, it has been confirmed that the director will be  Julien Temple–the same man who directed “The Great Rock And Roll Swindle,” a documentary about the Sex Pistols. The film is going to be about the tumultuous relationship between brothers and band mates, Ray and Dave Davies. They are famous for their onstage antics and love/hate relationship. As Temple puts it, “At the heart of it is the extraordinary love-hate relationship between these two brothers: love/hate, sibling rivalry is at the core (Screen Daily).” “I think it’s a very rich social, cultural nexus around The Kinks. Their story is the untold story of all those big bands of the 1960s.” Sources: http://www.nme.com/news/the-kinks/48719

Seth and Kady have heard the whispers.  According to others, you gather the things, say the ritual, and Tall Jake takes you away to a terrifying and horrible world called Malice. But when Seth attempts the ritual as a joke, everything goes horribly wrong, and Seth and Kady are sucked into a world where there is no escape.  Part novel, part comic book, Malice, by Chris Wooding, is a suspenseful thriller that will make you sleep with one eye open. Seth and Kady are best pals, but their friend Luke has been acting strange.  They had all heard the rumors of Malice and the infamous “Tall Jake,” but they dismissed them for a stupid myth.  Then Luke disappears.  There had been a series of vanishings in the kids’ hometown of London.  Parents just think it’s another kidnapping.  But Kady and Seth know better.  After searching Luke’s room, they discover the Malice comic book.  The books are supposedly bought by kids who want to know about the horrific world of Malice.  Created by an unknown artist named Grendel, Seth and Kady open the comic, only to find that it is blank. Seth and Kady embark on a quest to find Malice

SLAYER!!!!! “World Painted Blood” Review

December 7, 2009

Slayer‘s first album since the mostly positively-reviewed “Christ Illusion,” “World Painted Blood” had the usual pre-record hype. However, this album was hyped by ALL of the band members, including the generally reserved Dave Lombardo, considered by some to be the world’s greatest drummer. (Really, check him out on youtube.) Lombardo claimed that the album was the best since 1990′s “Seasons in the Abyss.” Around this time, Slayer released their first single “Psychopathy Red” only in the vinyl format, in honor of Record Day. This song is classic Slayer. Beginning with a riff similar to “Supremist,” the song immediately launches into full scale ear assault. See more about the album at: http://www.slayer.net/us/home. “Dio, No More Rockin’ For You”

“Dio can you hear me? I am lost and all alone. I’m asking for your guidance, won’t you come down from your throne?” So says Tenacious D, the worlds greatest band. However, Dio is very sick. The ex-Rainbow and Heaven and Hell singer was diagnosed with stomach cancer. On November 25th, his wife released this statement, “Ronnie has been diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer. We are starting treatment immediately at the Mayo Clinic. After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs, doing what he loves best, performing for his fans. “Long live rock and roll, long live Ronnie James Dio. “Thanks to all the friends and fans from all over the world that have sent well wishes. This has really helped to keep his spirit up.” The seminal singer, 67, is still rocking today, releasing an amazing album with Heaven and Hell (The album is titled “The Devil You Know”) in April. He also actively tours with his band Dio, which were forced to cancel their U.K. Tour. He has also worked with Elf, Black Sabbath, and Ronnie and the Rumblers. In other news, members of the black metal band Satyricon have

Glee Review

It seems like the whole school has been talking about the new comedic musical drama on Fox, Glee. Glee’s pilot episode premiered in May, 2009, sweeping the nation off its feet. The pilot episode alone got a nation-wide autograph tour. Glee, directed by Ryan Murphy, Elodie Keene, and John Scott, airs from 9 to 10 PM every Wednesday on Fox. Glee is about Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), who comes back to his high school, McKinley High, to teach Spanish and run glee club. He remembers the days when the people in glee club were the “popular” kids, or the “cool” kids. He tries to bring glee club back to the old days when they rocked the school, despite the efforts of insane and incredibly funny, Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch). Even though glee club may have fewer members than back in the old days, the group still has some amazing singers and dancers. The group includes Kurt (Chris Colfer), a fashionable student who can hit a high note and knows the dance to “Single Ladies;” Mercedes (Amber Riley) a edgy diva who reminds Mr. Schuester what the new music is; Artie (Kevin McHale), a wheelchair-bound member who, despite his disability, rocks

Songs to Put You in the Spirit

October 26, 2009

With Halloween coming up, I’ve decided to write a list of scary songs, not movies–because this list is terrifying. “Kim,” Eminem. Without a doubt, one of the scariest songs ever written. While also taking the cake for most swear words in one sentence, this song sends chills down my spine EVERY TIME. “The Serpentine Offering,” Dimmu Borgir. Scary symphonic death metal. What else gets you in the mood for a night of mischief and mayhem? “The Monster Mash,” Bobby Pickett and the Cryptkickers. Old school horror. When you’re tired of running house to house in a cold sweat, pump this up and start dancing the monkey! “Don’t Fear The Reaper,” Blue Oyster Cult. Anyone that has seen Friday the 13th will get the terror that is synonymous with this incredibly cheesy 70′s anthem. “Thriller,” Michael Jackson. The scariest song of the 80s (aside from hair metal power ballads. Eeek!) has kept its resonance, thanks to the epic video. If you want anymore songs to send chills down the spine just ask me.

Dear Cougars

Dear Cougars, Take your horse blinders off! Your latest  issue list Kanye West, The Jonas Brothers,  Taylor Swift, and Britney Spears as the  artists of the month. This excludes the facts:  Metallica’s Death Magnetic lasted on  the  charts longer then any of those artists,  (excluding the massive Fearless by Taylor  Swift) and AC/DC’s Black Ice was on the number one spot two weeks, and Slipknot God’s Wrath placed 2nd on the charts, with Kelly  Clarkson and Now! 30 ramming the same songs you just heard down your throats. The fact that  you haven’t mentioned any of these bands feels a lot like a snub to me. Just because I can’t hear any of these songs on Z‐100 or the new radio station  that bought out K‐Rock doesn’t mean that they are  any less important! If you’re going to comment on music, comment on all the music!
