The Dells are in a constant uproar.  King Nash tries to hold onto his throne while rebel lords fight him at every turn.  Monsters are everywhere.  And Fire is the last of her kind, a girl whose appearance takes the breath away of everyone she meets.  As if she would need that since she can read minds and manipulate whomever she wants–xxcept for a young child, who will become the most dangerous villain ever. Violence is everywhere.  When Fire, a young girl living in the Dells, gets shot by an arrow, the first thing she tries to do is read the mind of the shooter.  Except it is blank.  There’s nothing to read, almost like he’s being controlled by someone else.  The day after the archer is captured and put inside prison, Fire and her best friend, Archer, find that he has been shot dead.  This is just the beginning of a course of events that will change the Dells forever. Fire is the daughter of a maniacal ruler named Cansrel.  Before he died in a tragic suicide, he was the chief adviser to the ruler of the Dells, King Nax.  Cansrel was a monster, beautiful and irresistible to everyone,

How do you say “yum” in Iceland?

The Big Mac has left the building. After a 16-year run, McDonalds has closed down in Iceland. The three restaurants, all in Reykjavik, have closed down after the cost of the Big Mac (not the meal, just the burger) has skyrocketed to $5.29, or 650 Krona. Analysts guess that it would be $6.36, or 780 Krona by the end of the year. This rise in price has a lot to do with the huge Icelandic economic crisis and the fact that all parts of the burger have to be imported from Germany, 1,371 miles away. The owner plans to reopen the restaurants under a new name, Metro, using only Icelandic products. It is not the first time that McDonald’s, which currently operates in more than 119 countries on six continents, has exited a country. Its only restaurant in Barbados closed after just six months in 1996 because of bad sales. In 2002, the company pulled out of seven countries that didn’t bring in profits as part of an international cost-cutting exercise. Spooky Secrets of MKA

Today we will be exploring why there is no room 225… Long ago, when your oldest brother was an 8th grader, there was a third room in the hallway leading to the library. They were rooms 224, 225, and 226. They were good…and they were tiny. In fact, no one could move in them. So one day, the old headmaster decided to rip out room 225. And from that day on, everyone had enough space. But, not everything was perfect. One day, while the walls were being ripped out, teacher came in for a meeting. However, he had misheard the location. The meeting was actually in room 125! He was a substitute, so he had no idea that the room was very unstable. He walked in and (wait for it…) fell through the floor to his bloody death a floor below. So, now his ghost now haunts the Crow’s Nest, as well as rooms 224 and 226. in fact, many members of the janitorial staff have quit after hearing his screams of pain, resulting from his death on the floor below.

Songs to Put You in the Spirit

October 26, 2009

With Halloween coming up, I’ve decided to write a list of scary songs, not movies–because this list is terrifying. “Kim,” Eminem. Without a doubt, one of the scariest songs ever written. While also taking the cake for most swear words in one sentence, this song sends chills down my spine EVERY TIME. “The Serpentine Offering,” Dimmu Borgir. Scary symphonic death metal. What else gets you in the mood for a night of mischief and mayhem? “The Monster Mash,” Bobby Pickett and the Cryptkickers. Old school horror. When you’re tired of running house to house in a cold sweat, pump this up and start dancing the monkey! “Don’t Fear The Reaper,” Blue Oyster Cult. Anyone that has seen Friday the 13th will get the terror that is synonymous with this incredibly cheesy 70′s anthem. “Thriller,” Michael Jackson. The scariest song of the 80s (aside from hair metal power ballads. Eeek!) has kept its resonance, thanks to the epic video. If you want anymore songs to send chills down the spine just ask me.

Hogwart’s Haven

Professor Minerva McGonagall: “Why is it, that whenever anything happens, it’s always you three?” Ron Weasley: “Believe me, Professor. I’ve been asking myself that same question for the past six years.” SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!! On July 21, 2009 at 12:00 am, after months and months of waiting Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the movie, opened in theatres. Hundreds of “muggles” flocked to cinemas all over the country. Some dressed as wizards, others maybe in their pajamas. After the timeless WB trademark zoomed through the clouds, Harry is sitting in a gloomy London subway café, reading The Daily Prophet. The waitress says something about Harry Potter and moving pictures. Harry looks back at her, and she says, “I’m off at eleven.” An odd starting scene followed by an even stranger conversation between Harry and Dumbledore. This conversation involves the “rather pretty” waitress, as stated by Dumbledore. It also takes place in the foreground of a rather risqué billboard. But this is just one of the many awkward moments between Dumbledore and Harry. Those of you who have read the books know that relationships are a main theme in The Half-Blood Prince. First, there is a hint of Ron and Hermione’s relationship,

Tips and Tricks: MKA 101

October 21, 2009

The MKA Middle School can be a place that is big and hard to get used to when you first come to here, but if you know these tips and tricks, you will be able to navigate you way around the school as easy as pie! Tip #1: Make sure that you know the fastest way to get to your class. For example, there’s a stairway that’s across the hall from Mr. Flemming’s room that is never crowded, and is an easy access to the sixth grade hallway. Tip #2: Make sure you check Moodle three times. The first time in order to copy your homework down, into your planner. A second time so that you can complete your homework correctly, and one last time (after you do your homework) to make sure that you’ve done all of your work. Tip #3: Figure out a calendar of some kind. For instance, use iCal, your planner, Entourage, or any other kind of calendar. Calendars like these are helpful so that you can keep track of quizzes and tests, as well as when projects are due. Tip #4: With the new schedule, you now have more time during the day to complete
