Dear Cougars

Dear Cougars,

School is winding down and the year is coming to a close. And what a year it has been!

The Cougar Call staff introduced a new online format for the paper that has been well received.  The paper is readily available online to students and friends of MKA. In addition, news can be shared faster and it supports our green initiative. Next year’s staff will surely continue to build upon this new format.

A lot has also happened this year in the middle school. Each grade contributed to the community through community service projects. The annual student- faculty basketball game was a huge success in raising funds for earthquake victims in Haiti.

MKA middle school athletic teams have persevered throughout the year with many wins. The addition of the Sportsmanship Awards in P.E. have also been successful in that they have encouraged students to be more active in physical education.

Each grade has also taken on new projects in the classroom. Fourth graders experienced the excitement of the middle school, ready to take on the next four years. Fifth graders have eagerly dug their way through the study of ancient Egypt and archaeology. The sixth grade is in the midst of their musical project Alice in Wonderland, something we are all looking forward to. After experiencing the classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, the seventh graders breezed through Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. And the eighth graders, they have experienced it all. Five hours on a bus to Williamsburg, the Williamsburg paper, the science project, getting to know Finny and Gene from A Separate Peace. The “senior class” of the middle school is officially ready for the upper school.

It has been a pleasure to work on the staff of the Cougar Call, and an honor to be your editor. I would like to thank Kassie F, Aaron SB, Aaron S, Carrigan M, and Kaila F for all of their work as editors and congratulate them on a fantastic year! I would also like to thank all of the staff writers that contributed to the paper. Finally, a special thank you to our faculty advisor, Ms. Demaria, who helped us polish our articles and supported our vision for a new online paper. I wish you all luck and bid you adieu, as the eighth grade moves on to the Upper School. We look forward to reading all about the middle school news on!

Thank you all for your continued support and reading of the Cougar Call!

As always,
Kelsey O.
